Interests

NORTH AMERICAN BUTTERFLY ASSOCIATION (NABA)
I’m President of the New York City chapter of this association that is dedicated to the fine pastime of identifying butterflies using binoculars. The NY-NABA meets the first Wednesday of most months, and topics range beyond butterflies to pretty much any creature that walks, flies, swims, or grows.

DAMSELFLIES OF THE NORTHEAST
I’m the editor of this very fine field guide written and illustrated by Ed Lam, published by Biodiversity Books. Odes are the Next Big Bug, and Ed is one of their great champions.

CENTRAL PARK – NEW YORK CITY
I’m a long-time fixture of the Central Park (and New York City) nature scene - a constantly shifting cast of characters who roam the park with an interest in the birds, bugs, and plants there. Good links for New York Naturalists:
Marie Winn – Chronicler of Red-Tailed Hawks and much more…
Linnaean Society of New York – founded 1878, still active
NYC Bird Report – what’s flying in NYC

NEW YORK BAT GROUP
I’m a founding member of this informal group interested in NY’s Chiroptera. We don’t have regular meetings, but my wife, Danielle Gustafson leads bat walks in Central Park for the American Museum of Natural History’s Public Programs.
